Project Overview
Quinshield was awarded the contract to design, manufacture, supply and install three large GRP LPCB SR3 MCC kiosks and one polymer dosing kiosk for the new Guildford Sewage Treatment Works.
Delivered for the BAM Enpure Joint Venture on behalf of Thames Water Utilities Limited, the kiosks formed part of a major new wastewater treatment facility designed to support the growing population of Guildford.
The Requirement
The new Guildford Sewage Treatment Works required secure, robust and site-specific GRP kiosks to house key electrical and process equipment.
The scope included three large MCC kiosks built to LPCB SR3 specification, together with a polymer dosing kiosk. Due to the scale of the units and the flagship nature of the site, the project required careful design coordination, detailed documentation and a controlled installation approach.
Quinshield’s Solution
Quinshield designed and manufactured the GRP kiosks to suit the project’s technical and operational requirements.
The three MCC kiosks were each split into two compartments with a central dividing partition wall. They also included a combination of double and single access doors to support equipment access, maintenance and operational use.
The polymer dosing kiosk was designed as a tall GRP structure with three large roller shutter doors installed to the front elevation, providing practical access for the equipment and processes housed inside.
Scale of the GRP Kiosks
Because of the scale of the project, the kiosk dimensions formed an important part of the design and installation planning. Each unit was delivered in panel form, which helped Quinshield manage transport, lifting and on-site assembly.
- Polymer Dosing Kiosk: 9,200mm L x 5,600mm D x 5,000mm CIH
- MCC Kiosk 1: 27,200mm L x 7,200mm D x 3,650mm CIH
- MCC Kiosk 2: 23,200mm L x 7,200mm D x 3,200mm CIH
- MCC Kiosk 3: 21,400mm L x 7,200mm D x 3,200mm CIH
As a result, the installation required careful coordination between design, manufacture, delivery and site lifting operations.
Site Installation and Compliance
Due to the overall size of the enclosures, Quinshield delivered the kiosks in panel form for installation on site.
The installation was completed using contract lift cranes of up to 90 tonnes, supported by the required site documentation, planning and compliance processes.
As the project formed part of Thames Water’s flagship new sewage treatment works at Guildford, the level of project paperwork and site compliance requirements was high. Quinshield’s scope therefore required careful coordination from design through to manufacture, delivery and installation.
Outcome
Quinshield successfully delivered a large-scale GRP kiosk package for a major Thames Water wastewater infrastructure project.
The project demonstrated Quinshield’s ability to design, manufacture and install substantial GRP enclosures for complex utility environments, where security specification, access requirements, project documentation and controlled site installation are essential.
