Project Overview
Quinshield has supplied Scottish Water with GRP buildings, kiosks, roofs, covers and doors for more than eight years.
After being awarded the Scottish Water GRP kiosk framework in 2015, Quinshield has continued to support sites across Scotland with both bespoke GRP products and standardised catalogue kiosks.
The Requirement
Scottish Water required a dependable GRP supplier capable of supporting a wide range of water and wastewater infrastructure sites across Scotland.
Each project had different requirements depending on the site, access, equipment and scope of works. In addition, Scottish Water required standardised kiosk options that could help suppliers reduce time at the quotation and design stages.
Quinshield needed to provide flexible GRP solutions while also supporting framework pricing, specification compliance, site surveys, delivery and installation where required.
Quinshield’s Solution
Quinshield supplied a wide range of GRP products under the framework, including MCC buildings, pump buildings, GRP roofs, covers, door leaves, doors with frames and dosing kiosks.
The service ranged from supply only through to delivery and installation. Where required, Quinshield visited sites to survey access, discuss requirements, take measurements and agree integration with Scottish Water, lifting companies, civils contractors and site engineers.
Quinshield also worked to Scottish Water’s 609 specification for kiosks and provided structural calculations, including wind and snow loading, where required.
Framework Supply and Stock Holding
To support the framework, Quinshield maintained raw material stocks at its premises. This helped reduce the risk of manufacturing delays and allowed the company to manage price fluctuations more effectively.
Quinshield also kept selected standard kiosks in storage, allowing for faster delivery when required.
This approach helped protect framework pricing, reduce lead times and support Scottish Water suppliers with reliable access to standard GRP kiosk designs.
Example Project: Large Sample Kiosks
As part of the framework, Quinshield supplied a large batch of sample kiosks for Morrison Construction.
The project required 100 kiosks to be delivered within a five-month period during 2023. To achieve this, Quinshield worked with Morrison Construction and Scottish Water to agree a programme of works.
Quinshield then coordinated production through its laminating department, using multiple moulds to meet the required output of approximately five kiosks per week.
The programme was successfully delivered, and the approach has since supported Scottish Water’s decision to keep a stock of 10 kiosks available for future quick deliveries.
Example Project: KS11 Catalogue Kiosks
Quinshield was also involved in the design of the KS11 kiosk as a standard design for Scottish Water.
The kiosk became part of Scottish Water’s Clean Water catalogue, allowing suppliers to choose from standardised designs and reduce time during quotation and design.
To improve manufacturing efficiency, Quinshield produced a dedicated roof mould and standardised the door frames. This reduced set-up time during production and helped support delivery of the kiosks within four weeks from order at a fixed framework price.
The Outcome
Quinshield’s long-term relationship with Scottish Water demonstrates the company’s ability to support major utility frameworks through reliable GRP manufacture, technical support, stock holding and flexible delivery options.
By combining bespoke GRP capability with standardised catalogue products, Quinshield has helped Scottish Water and its suppliers reduce lead times, simplify procurement and maintain consistent product quality across sites.
